Dominic Pillai is a multidisciplinary artist working across moving image, sound and the written word. He is also an experienced project leader and educator. Trained as a visual anthropologist Dominic is passionate about accessibility, diversity and innovation within this field.

Commissioned by Folkestone and District Mind, in partnership with Touchbase Care, this experimental short film compiles a series of interviews into an immersive audio/visual work that aims to create a hearing voices experience with the aim to reduce stigma and create a better understanding of this condition.

Using primarily archive footage from the BBC programme Jazz 625, this work explores the way black performance has been consumed and appropriated by white audiences. Charting the changing perception of Jazz, the remixed soundtrack attempts to readdress the white intellectualisation of the music and place Jazz back into its original context as Dance music. Commissioned by the Surge in Spring II Festival 2018

In June 2016 two filmmakers were diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, one based in Los Angeles and the other in Folkestone. Travelling this parallel journey has created a continuous dialogue around the themes of duality and the exploration of a new sense of identity, which has now culminated in this work In the form of a video diptych, each filmmaker has created a screen that explores this subject from two uniquely personal perspectives. Presenting the work over 5 hours in the U.K and the United States establishes an equality between both filmmakers and allows the conversation to develop further on a transatlantic scale.

Siren’s Bay is a psychological gothic horror set on the south east coast of England. Dr Woods is a troubled academic who must confront her inner demons as the line between the natural and the supernatural begins to blur. With an all-female cast, Siren’s Bay is a revisionist ghost story starring Naomi Cooper- Davis (Crims, Peep Show, Little Britain), Lisa Williamson (Hollyoaks), Lucy Freeman and Sue Blakesley.
